It’s never too late to start eating healthy and become physically active! Little changes — like drinking water instead of soda, and eating more vegetables and fruits — can make a difference in your health.
When I go to grocery shopping, I try my best to buy fruits and vegetables in a variety of colors. The more colorful, the better! You don’t have to go your health journey alone — friends and family help keep me motivated. Food shopping and cooking dinner with someone encourages me to make healthy decisions.
Sometimes getting out and exercising your body can be daunting — but it doesn’t have to be. As the saying goes, “slow and steady wins the race.” Before you start a new fitness program, talk to your health care provider about what kinds of activities are OK for you to do. I had knee surgery a few years ago and during my recovery, my health care provider and I came up with a fitness plan that would be easy on my joints and that would help build muscle. Exercise doesn’t have to be boring — pick things that you enjoy! The bulk of my fitness plan consists of swimming and strength training.
Don’t forget: Every accomplishment begins with the decision to try.
