Folic Acid Every Day

October 16, 2017 by Suzanne Woodward

It’s good to take a multivitamin that has folic acid in it, even if you’re not trying to get pregnant. But did you know that you can get some folic acid from food, too?

Some foods have folic acid added to them — look for the word “fortified” or “enriched” on the label. Examples of foods that are fortified/enriched are: pasta, rice and products made from corn masa (like tortillas and tamales).

Some fruits and vegetables have folic acid in them naturally — this is called folate. Examples of foods that have folate are: broccoli, spinach and oranges.

Before you start taking a multivitamin or changing what you eat, talk to your health care provider to see what nutrition plan is best for you.
